The invite...
Greetings Castaways and Vermin,
Did you know that there are disc-related sports besides Ultimate? It's true. And while we all know that Ultimate is the true pinnacle of sport on this planet, it can be amusing to see how the other half lives. To that end, you are all invited to the first annual Castaways Invitational Frisbee Golf Tournament / Beach Outing! Have fun in the sun, sharpen your throwing skills, and scope out a potential sport to take up when you finally retire from Ultimate. Here are the details:
When : Saturday, July 25 (huck-off time around 10 am)
Where : Amesbury Pines Frisbee Golf Course
Where then : Salisbury BeachThe Amesbury Pines course is a full 18-hole course located in the Amesbury Town Park (fyi, Amesbury is near Salisbury, in the NE corner of the state). The course plays in and around a tall pine forest, one hole plays over a small pond, and all holes have blue pro and white amateur tees. There is no cost to use the course, but frisbee golf is generally played with special discs. The caretaker for the course has agreed to meet us there with a supply of discs which we can buy at a discounted price of $8. Normally you would need at least two discs, a long-distance disc (the driver) and a short-throw disc (the putter).
The current agenda is shaping up like this:
Meet at Chelmsford fields at 9 am for carpooling. Those who don't want to carpool can meet at the Amesbury course at 10 am.
Play frisbee golf! If we get a mix of people from both teams, a friendly hops-and-malt-based wager might be in order based upon lowest average score per team 8^)
Because of the convenient location, we're planning on heading over to Salisbury beach after golf, where activities can include volleyball and disc on the sand, as well less strenuous but equally enjoyable options like tanning and sipping pina coladas at one of the many nearby beach bars.
Guests are welcome, and if you only want to do golf or only want to do the beach, that's cool, too.
So if you think you'd be interested in checking it out, please RSVP to Ellen or to Rich. We need to get a somewhat accurate headcount so that the course caretaker will show up with an adequate number of golf discs for us. Hope to see you there...
Directions to Town Park (Amesbury Pines): I-495 to Exit 54 onto 150
North for .7 miles, turn left at blinking yellow light onto Highland,
course is .2 miles on the right.

The good sportsman award goes to Ellen who fished out more than her share of discs out of the drink (and almost gave new meaning to the phrase "go deep!").
